1. Admission Plan
Enrollment plan for full-time doctoral students is 40. (See Attachment 1 for the list of majors)
2. Program Duration and Study Duration
(1) Program Duration: 4 years
(2) The maximum duration of study (including suspension) shall not exceed 6 years.
3. Basic Admission Requirements
(1) Good physical and mental health
(2) Master’s degree
(3) Language requirements:
For Chinese-taught programs, HSK 5 or above is required; For English-taught programs, IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 70, or Duolingo 100 or above is required. Other international standard tests are also acceptable, language proficiency certificate from your school can be taken into consideration.
(4) Under the age of 40
(5) Complies with the regulations of the Ministry of Education’s Document [2020] No.12
4. Application Schedule
December 1st 2025 to May 31st 2026
5. Application Documents
1) The passport must be valid after September 2026, applicants in China are required to provide residence permit page.
2) Notarized Master’s Degree certificate
Non-Chinese or non-English documents must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations. Recent graduates must provide a pre-graduation certificate and submit the original master's degree certificate upon registration.
3) Transcript/ Academic Record
The transcript should include undergraduate, master's, and doctoral (if applicable) academic records up to the most recent semester, issued and stamped by the academic affairs office, graduate school, or relevant student administration department. Non-Chinese or non-English documents must be accompanied by a notarized Chinese or English translation.
4) Acceptance Letter of host-supervisor
Applicants must first contact the supervisor for assessment and obtain a letter of acceptance intent (see Attachment 2 for the template). Check attachment 3 for supervisors list.
5) Personal Resume/CV
6) Study plan or research proposal drawn up jointly with the host-supervisor
The study plan must be written in Chinese or English, detailing the intended major or research direction at our university, and requires the supervisor's signature. See Attachment 4 for the template of the study plan.
7) Proof of English Proficiency
a. Language certificate such as TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo, with a minimum score of 70 for TOEFL, 5.5 for IELTS, or 100 for Duolingo.
b. Official proof of the previous stage of study being conducted in English.
Applicants who cannot provide the above proof may have their language proficiency determined by the supervisor and department based on interviews and written tests. Applicants from countries where English is the official language are exempt from submitting English language proficiency certificates.
8) Two recommendation letters from experts
Must be written in either Chinese or English. The content should include the applicant's objectives for studying in China, as well as evaluations of the applicant's comprehensive abilities and future development potential. See Attachment 5 for the template.
9) Valid Certificate of Physical Examination
The Physical Examination Record for Foreigner is invalid if any of the following conditions apply: missing items, no personal photo attached, or no seal on/over the perforation of the photo, or lacking the signature and stamp of the physician and hospital. Validity should be within 6 months (see Attachment 6 for the template). The blood test report must include results for HIV, V.D.R.L., HBsAg, and HCV.
10) Certificate of Non-criminal Record
Validity should be within 6 months. If unavailable during the application, a No Criminal Record Commitment Letter may be submitted as an alternative (see Attachment 7 for the template).
11) Financial statement
Non-Chinese Government Scholarship recipients are required to submit a bank-issued deposit certificate in the applicant's name with a balance of no less than 30,000 RMB or equivalent foreign currency.
12) Other supporting materials (such as award certificates)
Note:
a. Applications with incomplete materials will not be accepted.
b. In addition to the above-mentioned materials, supplementary materials may be required by the situation.
7.How To Apply
Step 1: Get Acceptance Letter from supervisor, click for supervisors list.
Step 2: Register in the Online Application System https://appghc.sicau.edu.cn, upload the Acceptance Letter, fill in personal information and scholarship application form.
Step 3: Submit application documents online.
Step 4: Pay application fee: RMB 600/ U.S. Dollar 90 (non-refundable)
Two ways of payment:
(1) Pay at the International Student Office of SAU (Room 425, Comprehensive Administration Building, Ya'an Campus; Room 114, Administration Building 1, Chengdu Campus).

8.Admission Results
Results will be published on the university website and notified via email. Applicants may also check their status through the Online Application System.
9. Scholarships
International students can apply for university scholarship, the standard is tuition waiver and living allowance RMB 19600/year for the first year, from the second year RMB 14600/year-25600/year. The supervisor's grant of no less than RMB 9,600/year in principle has been included, with the specific amount determined and announced by the supervisor and research group.
In addition to university scholarship, students can also apply for Chinese Government Scholarship (CGS), Sichuan Government Scholarship (SGS) ,Chengdu Government Sister-Cities Scholarships, Chengdu Government “The Belt and Road” Scholarship .
